Key facts¶
- Sgt. Neil Thompson (EPS) charged with aggravated assault on Sept 4, 2025.
- Incident: March 1, 2024 — police responded to a stabbing outside a west-Edmonton bar; located the suspect in a vehicle near 98A Ave & 178 St; during the stop Thompson "fired his gun at the man, causing non-life-threatening injuries."
- ASIRT investigated and "determined there was reasonable grounds to believe that an offence had been committed."
- Thompson released on an undertaking; first court appearance Oct 15 (2025); remained on duty in a non-operational role.
Corroborates the ASIRT charged-officers list (Thompson, 2025). Rare: one of the very few EPS shootings that produced any charge — and the wounding was non-fatal.
