DISCIPLINE: every line here is about CONDUCT toward a STATE's policies and the POLICING of protest — never about ethnicity or religion.

Canada Palestine Cultural Association (CPCA) — Edmonton-based; has held rallies across the city every weekend since Oct 7 2023 (per CBC, one-year-anniversary piece). Spokesperson/VP Mousa Qasqas describes the weekly protest as a "cathartic vent" that united the community with others. The sustained, extra-electoral form: weekly presence on the street, not a motion at council.

Free Palestine YEG (@freepalestineyeg) — grassroots social-media-organized Edmonton solidarity group calling for ceasefire, divestment, and an end to Israeli apartheid.

People's University for Palestine — organized the U of A encampment (main quad, set up May 9 2024, ~40 tents). Demands to the university: disclose investments with Israeli institutions, divest, provide amnesty for protesters, and condemn the war in Gaza/West Bank. This is the frontline's DIRECT-ACTION register: not asking a councillor to move a motion, but occupying ground and forcing an institution to answer.

The policing of that protest (the through-line to the police beat): on May 11 2024 Edmonton police cleared the encampment at ~5am, deploying tear gas / pepper-spray munitions and a "muzzle blast," making 3 arrests, with attendees banned from campus for a year (The Gateway; Global). Alberta Crown later stayed the charges against the three men arrested (CBC). Two alumni (Palestinian-Canadian students Noor Abdo and Mustapha Yassin) and assistant professor Michael Litwack filed a Charter challenge against the U of A over the removal (CBC). A retired judge's review found the university had legal authority to clear it but "could have responded differently."

The frame link: the same municipal police force whose budget council put on a locked escalator is the force that tear-gassed a divestment encampment at dawn — the policing of Palestine solidarity and the policing of homeless encampments are the same apparatus, the same instrument of the same order.
