Councillor for the west end (Ward 1 → Ward Nakota Isga) 2013, 2017, 2021 — three terms, 12 years. Elected Mayor of Edmonton Oct 20 2025 at 37.98%, beating Cartmell (29.83%). Brand: self-described "the only truly independent candidate for Mayor" (andrewknack.ca/vision); a strategist during the race noted he positioned himself as "the only progressive candidate" (CTV, Sept 16 2025); post-ideological — "There is no right-wing way to clear snow off the streets." Grew up "very very right-wing," now describes himself as roughly centre-left. NOT self-styled progressive in his own primary framing — his own word is "independent."
