Mayor¶
Andrew Knack (Independent) won with 37.98% (78,519 votes), defeating Tim Cartmell (Better Edmonton) at 29.83% (61,668). Former councillor Michael Walters 11.90%; Omar Mohammad 9.92%. Incumbent mayor Amarjeet Sohi did not seek re-election (ran federally instead, spring 2025).

Composition (2025- council)¶
12 ward councillors + Mayor Knack. 9 of 12 ward seats Independent (66.40% of council vote), 3 Better Edmonton (24.89%). Wikipedia characterizes the result as a "progressive-leaning council," with most incumbents retaining seats. Better Edmonton is Cartmell's fiscally-conservative party (Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Better_Edmonton). The self-styled progressive independents (Janz, Salvador, Tang, Rutherford, Stevenson) all won; the only incumbent ousted was Jennifer Rice, replaced by an independent transit worker.
Honest complication for the "bloc lost" frame¶
The self-styled progressive bloc did NOT get wiped out at the ballot box in 2025 — they largely held their ward seats and independents kept a supermajority. What changed at the top: the mayoralty passed from Sohi (Liberal-affiliated centre-left) to Knack, the post-ideological "no right-wing way to clear snow" manager who out-polled the fiscal-conservative Cartmell. No socialist ran with a chance; the ceiling of the field was Knack's managerial centre-left vs Cartmell's centrist/fiscal-conservative party. The "death" is the ceiling, not a red-to-blue flip.
